In one section of a peer-reviewed study, Dr. Soystein noted a particular treatment: taking a break from 'jakking. This sent 31% of cases into remission, but most of the treatments within the study resulted in a worse outcome for the patients. Longer breaks increase the chance of patients migrating from the site, and quitting 'jakking altogether. Even with meds, the chances of remission are roughly the same as a 5 week break. The chances of patients becoming out of touch also increases when they take longer breaks. However, the chances of patients showing no change from a 4 month break is almost zero.

Are you sure that it's just getting started? Because my peer-reviewed studies indicate that IT'S OVER.

'Jakking Fatigue Syndrome (JFS) is an illness affecting old 'jakkers which results in the desire to no longer 'jak. The main cause of JFS is 'jakking for prolonged periods of time like a schizophrenic.

The main symptoms of JFS include: Increased levels of boredom whilst 'jakking, lack of interest in soy culture (especially in newer trends) distancing yourself from the Soy Community, and worst of all, deleting your Soy folder.

History

JFS was first discovered by Dr. Soyberg in 1978. While studying an unknown illness afflicting soyteens, Dr. Soyberg discovered a correlation between a drop in desire to 'jak and time spent consecutively 'jakking. Since its discovery, an estimated 85% of all soyteens who leave the Sharty are afflicted with some form of JFS. In another 2023 paper by Dr. Soystein, it was discovered that soyteens who partake in effort posting and creating efforteralds are even more susceptible to this illness.

JFS

While JFS manifests in a consistent manner, there are 4 major subtypes outlined by Dr. Soystein's 2023 research paper on JFS.

Classifications

Subtypes
Main JFS Subtypes Cause Symptoms Life Expectancy
Classical JFS Jakking for too long/Aging Loss of desire to jak 2-3 years
OldGod JFS Producing too many IAS gems Loss of desire to jak/Migrating 0.5 - 1 years
Brainrot JFS Engaging in Sharty culture without break Only able to lurk and repost gems. Never leaving the site
NewGod JFS Getting filtered Loss of desire to jak/Posting NAScoal 0-1 months

Symptoms

While the main symptom of JFS is the loss of one's desire to 'jak, there are several other notable symptoms. The ability to engage in Sharty culture is also gradually lost, as patients with JFS stop quoting, stop using soyspeak, self-insert, blog post and stop dueling. Due to the sunk cost fallacy, many 'teens are unwilling to hastily abandon the Sharty and instead choose to relocate. A large percentage of soyteens on the Shlog, wiki, and booru are soyteens who have contracted JFS and use the change of environment as a coping mechanism for their gradual loss of 'jakking ability. In extreme cases, it has been documented that some soyteens even relocate to degenerate Soy Splinters, in which case all hope for their recovery is lost.

Causes

JFS is mainly the result of browsing /soy/ or /qa/ for extended periods of time. Many of the oldest oldGODs from the kway itself have been soyteens for half a decade and their advanced age has been linked to JFS manifesting. Over exposure to nonsense posting and brainrot are another common cause of JFS. There have been no genetic links to JFS found.

Cure

As of 2024, there are no cures for JFS and it is terminal. The Soyteen Soientist Agency (SSA), headed by Dr. Soystein have received grants from the Root administration to expedite a cure for JFS.

Treatment

In one section of a peer-reviewed study, Dr. Soystein noted a particular treatment: taking a break from 'jakking. This sent 31% of cases into remission, but most of the treatments within the study resulted in a worse outcome for the patients. Longer breaks increase the chance of patients migrating from the site, and quitting 'jakking altogether. Even with meds, the chances of remission are roughly the same as a 5 week break. The chances of patients becoming out of touch also increases when they take longer breaks. However, the chances of patients showing no change from a 4 month break is almost zero.

A sample of the data is shown below:

First Study
Treatment Length Outcome Number of Patients (%)
Break 5 weeks Trooned out 60 (4%)
Break 5 weeks Out of touch 170 (14%)
Break 5 weeks Remission 379 (31%)
Break 5 weeks Migrated 124 (10%)
Break 5 weeks No change 473 (39%)
Second Study
Treatment Length Outcome Number of Patients (%)
Break 4 months Migrated 240 (38%)
Break 4 months Remission 130 (21%)
Break 4 months Out of Touch 210 (34%)
Break 4 months Trooned Out 41 (1%)
Break 4 months No change 3 (0%)
Break + Meds 4 Months Out of touch 200 (41%)
Break + Meds 4 Months Remission 160 (33%)
Break + Meds 4 months Migrated 120 (25%)
Break + Meds 4 months Suicide 5 (0%)

Operation: Soyjak Freedom

Operation Soyjak Freedom[1] is a Shlog based operation with the desired goal of increasing the PPD on non-jakking boards (boards besides /soy/, /qa/, and /nate/). Current research by the SSA suggests that creating non-jakking spaces on the Sharty could increase the life expectancy of patients with JFS and perhaps even cure them. The operation is still in its infancy and has yet to receive backing from either the SSA or the Root administration.

Touching Grass

One controversial theory is that going outside and doing things in real life acts as a good reprieve from the jakking that causes JFS. A healthy diet, fresh air, social interactions, healthy family relationships, working out, and limiting you time within the soysphere can lead to a much longer and gemmier career. To be safe, the soientist behind this radical theory has been executed for thought crimes.

End-of-life care

Despite their decrepit and coaly state, oldGODs with JFS are still worthy of respect. In their twilight years, it is important to extract all knowledge of Sharty culture from them, so that you can cherry pick which parts are gemmy and blackhole the rest. Patients with JFS may be unable to keep up with the FOTM memes, making them irritable and scared. While usually a pointless endeavor, do your best to calmly explain the joke to them.

Notable sufferers

Here is a list of notable patients suffering with JFS.

Soot

Even Soot, the well known and renowned creator of the sharty, has been diagnosed with JFS. Ever since The Great Purchase, Soot has distanced himself almost entirely from the site. He claims he doesn't browse it anymore nor does he keep up with any site happenings/events or the latest soy memes. His only line of communication with the soy community is his email, his website Soot.soy, and a couple of Q&A's held on both the sharty and the shemmy. Considering he's in university, and all the memories/controversies that took place during his adminship, its extremely unlikely he'll ever return as a site admin, as he stated himself in his Q&As that the modern-day sharty is way too fast/popular, which was much less popular than when he owned it.

David Thoughie

The famous rock star David Thoughie, known for his various soy classics such as "Cobman", "Gem Cobbity", and "The Colorjak Song", has been diagnosed with JFS. He doesn't find interest in 'jaks or the Sharty anymore, which is such a shame since he was a great singer.

The Swede

That's right folks, not even the creator of Soyjak himself is safe from the grips of 'Jakking Fatigue Syndrome. The Swede, famous for creating Soyjak and Impish Soyak Ears, has left the soy community. Some have even gone so far as to say he has left his home board /int/, the birthplace of 'jakking, though this claim is debatable.
