On imageboards its purpose is usually to fill the board with gems for the purposes of wiping the catalogue or filling a thread (usually NSFW content or mass replying), but it can also be a tactic for advertising, which is typically CP websites or other imageboards. Spamming may also aid a poster in stealing a GET, as spamming will temporarily accelerate a boards average post rate and give you more chances to steal if the board has a low cooldown on posting. On slower boards, this can shave off hours of time until the GET and can catch genuine users of the board off guard if done fast enough. That nigger mud has allowed spam on /soy/ so retard spammers are now constantly coaling the 'log with their shitty new variant:unknowns
