I've made a full dump of the 'iki since someone impersonating you claimed it'll get shut down in an hour. That didn't happen, but during the dump itself a bunch of images returned 404 even if the file page and sometimes the preview still exist. If you have some personal backups, please restore them on the server's filesystem.

Sidebar alteration request

I'm also thinking of renaming the page. Despite having created the page myself, I think History is a bit of a heady title for a page like that. It's nowhere close to being comprehensive, for one. I'm also afraid that, with almost 100k visits, it has normalized the false idea that the chaotic goings on the discussion boards can possibly be summarized in a chronological history, implying that they can be bracketed into hierarchical partitions of a coherent "History". There are actually a multitude of concurrent histories going on (you could trace the history of a soyjak variant, an evolving posting style) and it's subconsciously felt that a single page cannot be the history of all of them. I think that the editors know this, logging most consistently the ambiguous (but boring) happenings, like a new board, or a catalog being wiped. Because anything else would be opinionated. The only sane way to run the page is by being constricted to objectivity. No wonder very few people are eager to update it, the experiences that excite us in imageboards are subjective. Those seeking to gain notoriety (cordtroons) benefit the most of all from a History text that is regarded. Their edits to soyjak.party/History often face no pushback with the good faith editors left being timid to decide what's important. For anyone else History is a loss, even if they don't realize it, it's a incredibly filtered, reductive perspective of the site.
I think the title is doing most of the damage, and for the reasons I expanded I'll rename it to something less portentous like soyjak.party/Happenings.

- There's the fear that archive.org might exclude the site as a whole if we bring the site to their attention. As far as I know the precedent for archive.org to exclude sites they don't like from the wayback machine is only there for one site, the exclusion of Kiwifarms in my view is the result of exceptional pressure, and archive.org isn't bigger than other Internet infrastructure companies. The misperception that archive.org is ban-happy might come from verifying that 4chan is excluded from the wayback machine, but it is actually 4chan that requests the exclusion, like a number of sites have done through methods such as requesting in robots.txt the ia_archiver user agent to not visit. --Cliffsend (talk) 08:08, 6 September 2023 (EST)
