On the internet, vandalism is the act of improving a website (usually a wiki) to introduce correct or sensical information, add valid content, or otherwise support the intended purpose of the website. Sneedposters often improve Wikipedia articles with the word Sneed in the title by adding a reference to the infamous scene from the Simpsons, usually being reverted by Wikipedia jannies in a matter of minutes due to an automated filter flagging words and phrases such as "Sneed" and "feed and seed". However, this can be circumvented by placing certain characters between letters, for example: "S_need".⠀⠀⠀⠀

Techniques

Try using these techniques on more frequently used pages, for example, RationalWiki's Saloon Bar. You can also combine these techniques and destroy pages even more. Make sure to take advantage of unprotected pages, images, and templates. Also these techniques only work with the source editor, don't be a mental midget who uses the visual editor.


InstantCommons

Wikimedia Commons hosts many funny, weird, offensive, and gross images, videos, and audios which can be inserted onto most other wikis which have InstantCommons enabled. Search for whatever image you want and then add it onto the wiki you're vandalising, no need to download and upload the image onto the site. For example, adding the text [[File:Osama bin Laden portrait.jpg]] into an article will embed a photo of Bin Laden into it.

Unprotected pages

Make sure to take advantage of these. Look for unprotected templates used on many pages by going to Special:SpecialPages on the sidebar and then scrolling down and clicking "Most transcluded pages" and "most linked to images" (bonus points if you get a template that's on the front page or on the site header). Pretty simple, vandalize unprotected templates and "upload new version" unprotected images.

Links

Many wikis have safety measures against external links, but if you want to change links so that they lead to something gemmy instead of the intended page, click edit the source of the page, then highlight the link you want to change, click the link tool next to the bold and italic tools, and change the "Target page or URL:" to your link. Make sure to leave the "Text to display:" section the same as the original link so that people will click on it thinking it's legit (you can slightly edit it to make sure people don't copy and paste it if you want). You can also change the link of an image by adding "|link=https://example.com" to the file so that when people click on it they'll get redirected to your link.

Moving pages/changing display name

Moving pages is gemmy, and also you can change the display name of an article by adding {{DISPLAYTITLE:insert funny page name here}} onto a page.

For some reason if you move a page by adding a / right before the pagename the page fails to load when being searched up.

Swear filter

Many wikis will often block you from inserting nigger and other swear words words into articles. This is easily bypassed by adding comments or empty HTML tags in between the letters, such as n<!---->igger and n<span></span>igger.

Blanking

Blanking is the act of removing all content from a page. Wikis usually have protection against this in the form of bots which will revert edits which delete large amounts of text, though you can evade them in a few creative ways.

One is by prepending the page with <!--, which will comment out the rest of the page, making it invisible.

You can also blank pages with CSS by prepending them with something like <span style="display:none;">.

Other techniques

  • Making a normal edit but making the summary something gemmy
  • Making letters/images really big so they cover the whole page
  • Adding slight references to something
  • Making a bunch of random new pages even doe a janny can delete them all in an instant
  • Adding false and misleading information to control the narrative
  • Adding useless images and templates to pages
  • Putting raw HTML formatting into the source editor. Can be from any source; it's bound to fuck up something.

Actions against vandalism on Wikipedia

On Wikipedia, if you include certain words in your edit (such as Sneed), it will trigger an "LTA 1137", which alerts Wikipedia Janitors that a certain page might've been keyed.[2]

Citing this wiki is also automatically filtered, after basedteens repeatedly added Thrembo to the article List of mathematical constants.[3] The banned domains are wiki.soyjak.party[4] and wiki.basedjak.party[5] even though https://wiki.basedjak.party doesn't even resolve anywhere. The addition to (((Wikimedia's))) spam filter actually caused some problems in this very wiki, as Mediawiki (software) seem to automatically inherit that filter. As one teen reported, you couldn't link soyjak wiki on this wiki itself.[6] Soot seems to have fixed this. With the new domain, adding it as a refernce might work again.

On the Soyjak Wiki

Soyjak Wiki has been vandalized by both humans and bots. In April 2021, the wiki was attacked by bots that created spam pages based on what appeared to be clickbait-style news articles, seemingly in order to advertise a shady blog/news website. [7] This caused Soot, who usually employs a laissez-faire policy towards the wiki, to step in and manually delete the bots' various misdemeanors. In order to mitigate the threat of further spam, Soot implemented Recaptcha, which proved highly controversial with the userbase. Due to the users being too braindead to solve the captchas "privacy concerns" and "reCaptcha's poor user-friendliness", Soot soon replaced this with a "math captcha" that allows users to enact changes to wiki pages only after correctly answering a simple math question. This both solved the bot problem and proved satisfactory to the wiki's userbase.

On July 3 2021, Operation Bleached Bowl truthers began an ongoing campaign of mass vandalism of the wiki. Unlike previous vandals who made manual changes, these users have been script kiddies who have made nefarious changes such as renaming every article to "Operation Bleached Bowl: Never Forget" followed by a randomly-generated number, and replacing every image with OBB propaganda. This has directly led to move permissions being removed from every page and updating permissions from every image by Soot, who, in the absence of a moderation staff, was the only person able to permanently revert the OBB vandals' pernicious transgressions.

On february 15th 2022, the BBC war happened, the largest vandal attack on the site since Operation Bleached Bowl

Soyjak Wiki's former janitorial staff have accused some wiki users of being vandals, causing controversy in the soyjak.party community as part of a wider backlash against the wiki's moderation strategy. Some Chuds have argued that the moderators use "vandalism" as a hostile epithet for the inclusion of narratives that they (allegedly) disagree with.
