Due to being less common than German victory stories, Southern victory stories are usually of (slightly) better quality than German victory stories.

| In almost all alternate history stories focusing on America, the country is always split apart due to political and ethnic tensions between the states. Because of this, the political climate of America resembles that of the Balkans, hence the Balkanization name. In these stories, the confederacy (or some derivative of it) exists without fail. The remnants of the old government are always either concentrated in the east or west.
