A SMV (Soy Music Video) is a type of music video that features 'jaks in every frame of the video, usually meant to parody the song itself. SMVs nearly always feature 'jaks that have something to do with each line of the song in the video. There are two main types of SMVs; the first one is high-effort SMVs that include custom-made 'jaks and animations. The other, more common type is the slideshow SMV, in which the creator takes a bunch of images from the 'ru and assembles them into a presentation-like video that plays under a song. While they generally receive a positive reception, slideshow SMVs often draw criticism[1][2] for their low-effort nature and the lack of creativity in simply assembling pre-made 'jaks into a slideshow.

History

The first ever SMV was the "I F***ing Love Science" SMV. It is not known when exactly it was created but the earliest appearance of it was on August 26th, 2022 on the SPVA.[3] It was supposedly made by the same 'teen who runs the current SPVA channel himself.[4] Many other SMV's were created after it; as of 13 February 2024, there are 90 posts tagged "smv" on the booru. SMVs are very popular amongst tourists and 'teens alike, gaining thousands of views on YouTube and possibly, other social media websites like Twitter.
