Dead memes are memes that have died out, became irrelevant and are no longer used. Usually due to not keeping their charm, being forced too much, or because they were never good in the first place. Many dead memes still stand on the wiki for nostalgic purposes, to be read by oldfags and newfags alike, though no one ever checks or edits them anymore because everyone probably forgotten about them by now.
