The Republic of Türkiye (formerly Turkey (formerly Ottoman Empire)) is a country located mainly in West Asia, as well as a small part of Europe which was conquered by the Ottomans from the Byzantine Empire.

Temuçin moved to Türkiye, which is problematic because the state has been responsible for several genocides and war crimes which it still has not apologized for.

Armenian Genocide

In 1915, over 1 million Armenian Christians were ethnically cleansed from Anatolia by Muslim Turks and Kurds. This was done because the ruling party of the Ottoman Empire considered them potential traitors because they were Christian. The Turkish government has consistently denied the Armenian Genocide because admitting to it would have negative implications on Turkish nationalism.[1]

Greek and Assyrian Genocides

In addition to the Armenian Genocide, the Ottoman Turks also genocided around half a million Greeks[2] (mostly from the Pontus region) and Assyrians [3](mostly in Mesopotamia) living in the Ottoman Empire, also because they were Christian.

Kurdish-Turkish Conflict

During WWI, the Ottoman Empire genocided Christian minorities like Armenians and Assyrians and replaced them with Muslims like Kurds, which is why the majority of East Turkey is now Kurdish. After WWI, the new Republic of Turkey decided to embrace Turkish nationalism, which put them into conflict with Kurds who didn't want to become Turkish. The Turkish government denied the existence of Kurds for several decades, claiming that they were "Mountain Turks" who needed to be forcibly assimilated. This policy resulted in a lot of massacres and an on-going insurgency in East Turkey (which the Kurds call "Kurdistan").[4]

Invasion of Cyprus

By moving to North Cyprus, Temuçin is settling land which was invaded and stolen from the native Cypriots in 1974. The international community considers the North Cyprus territory as Turkish-occupied territory of the Republic of Cyprus. The occupation is viewed as illegal under international law, amounting to illegal occupation of European Union territory since Cyprus became a member.[5]
