The soy laughs or laugh wars incident was the forming event of a new soy speak term to express laughter in order to seek cultural independence from 4cuck's "kek", which is best known for birthing the term "geg".

History

Around January 2023, numerous threads[1] were made to discuss the formulation of a new term for laughter, echoing the old 4cuck attempts at searching a replacement for "lol" that passed through numerous fails like "zozzle" and "jej" that never caught on sitewide, finally ending on "kek". A poll on strawpoll was eventually made gathering the four most popular terms until then;

  • geg (from the fusion of "heheh" and "gem")
  • hem (alternative fusion of "heheh" and "gem")
  • jek (from the fusion of "'jak" and "kek")
  • kak (kek but with a, sounds like ACK! ACK! ACK!)

The poll

In the beginning, the clear favourites in the poll and its' respective thread were "geg", "hem", and rarely "jek", with "kak" quickly losing interest. Since the poll 'teen did not restrict votes to these options only (nor ever close the poll), the results were quickly flooded with 'cord and splinter raids, as well as alternative terms that gained some traction such as "Gloink" (or if it’s really funny "Gluh'hoink!"), based on Goofy's laugh, as well as "jej", which is an old 4cuck meme laugh.[2]

Poll results, vote interference and impact

In the end, the winner was "add /fur/", with 111 votes, with hem winning second place with 106 votes and geg winning third place with 26 votes.[3] This, of course, led to widespread suspicions of fraud and scriptniggering, which were based on the scientific method and later confirmed by Snopes. Regardless of this, victory laps were seen on /soy/ by the hem supporter after hem's victory. Despite this, hem quickly vanished and became an obscure footnote of soy history, with "geg" being the only term to survive this event, being seen used on the 'sharty and its' influence sphere often as a replacement for "kek".
