Alternate History is a genre of speculative fiction of stories in which one or more historical events occur and are resolved differently than in real life. It usually consists of the same four or five scenarios like "What if Nazis won World War II" and "What if the South won the Civil War????" and is enjoyed primarily by 13 year olds and trannies who play Hearts of Iron IV.
List of Common Alternate History Tropes
Germany Winning World War II
Arguably the most common alternate history trope. A large potion of alternate history is laser focused on an alternate World War II where the nazis win for an extremely contrived reason that would not make sense in real life. If it is explained, it almost always has to do with the macguffin of the alternate history property or is caused by Germany not doing something that they would have done in real life (such as the holocaust or invading Russia.)
