Imageboards are a discussion medium invented by some basement dwelling jap in the 90's. The premise is that all posts are anonymous; there is no need to register an account or choose a username in order to post (but you can still namefag). Outside of being an outdated piece of shit(since it isn't 2006 anymore and no one needs to wait for someone to reply to their threads with the porn they want), imageboards are known for their grotesque, deviant, and shocking content. Those who have spent more than a decade on these forsaken forums are often too far gone.

Imageboard Engines

Yotsu(soy)ba engine Closed source imageboard engine used by 4chan and 2chan. Kinda shit due to annoying captchas and lack of features that are more common in other engines, i.e. being able to post more than one image and being able to post images from your clipboard.

Vichan The most popular imageboard engine as of 2022, used by soyjak.party and many others. Great functionality and utility, like being able to post large files(with sound), good layout for posting so typing doesn't feel so cramped (like on cuckchan), less bugs and 30 second post cooldowns. Works best without captcha.

Infinity Next Outdated trash. Known for horrific captchas, lag, and making you wait several minutes before being able to make a new thread. Originally intended for 8chan.

LynxChan A modern imageboard engine used on KOHLCHAN and few other imageboards. Can be extensible but lacks a search feature.

Nanochan A decent privacy focused engine, blocks all javascript to ensure maximum anonymity when using TOR. Popular with a few darknet altchans. Had some imageboard virgin drama associated with it but who the fuck cares. Use picochan alternatively.

Kokonotsuba Closed source imageboard software developed by Kuz and used on his imageboard. It supports rare features like TripMail, built-in emoticons, a dating feature, gemvoting, and some others.
