History

TikTok originally began as a secret military project called "Operation Frequency" by the Government of the Soviet Union to try and influence western society but it never released. The files were handed to the Chinese Communist Government who worked on the project until the app was created in September 2016 and began being released globally. The Chinese company Bytedance started partnerships with companies, celebrites, 'tubers, and even government officials to help raise the app's popularity.

2017-2018 era 'tok was such coally brimstone that it's sometimes called the tumblr era because of all the eating disorder and mental illness shit that was common.

Relations with Reddit

Redditors are infamously known for having a hate boner and superiority complex for every social media platform that isn't Reddit, especially Instagram and more recently Tiktok. In 2020 all of Reddit teamed up with their personal army of 6 billion pajeets to raid 'tok's reviews on the app store and jewgle play and spam 1-star reviews, which worked and brought the app's score down to 1 star which redditors considered to be a massive heccin' wholesome trans poggers moment before apple and play store jannies came back with the hot pockets and reverted everything.

Issues

TikTok is no stranger to le hecking problematic scandals and drama.
